Thanks for the explanation of the holiday. I am glad to confirm what I always knew: no animals were thrown into any bonfires. 🤦🏻♀️
Kabala sounds interesting and thanks for making me curious to know more. Just a question: what type of mysticism are you comparing and contrasting? Because I think Saint John of the Cross (a 16th century Spanish mystic imprisoned by the Church) cared a lot about truth. He wrote a famous work called _The Dark Night of the Soul_.
Thanks. You literally made me giggle about the animals :-) No, definitely none in the fire.
I don't know much about Saint John, but based on your description, I think I wouldn't consider him a mistic.
The mysticism I refer to is more like the deterministic (Everything is already decided and we're just small little cogs in the machine, acting out our role), or the like of the Astrologists, in that they claim that external, materialistic bodies have impact on our being.
To clarify, Kabbalists talk about astrology, but the context is entirely different. Though I cannot fully explain it, as I don't fully understand it myself, they believe that every "star sign" or alignment of stars is a representation of what they call "God's faces" - a very deep concept in itself - and that we can glean some wisdom by observing it.
This helps tremendously! Glad I made you giggle about the animals. I still can’t get over the social media nonsense over lag b’omer! I never came across mysticism in this way. My brain sees mystic and I think Saint John of the Cross and Julian of Norwich (there are more)—Catholic education….
I now understand your distinction. Today Rabah. Did you know I am studying Hebrew? I am very excited to try it in Israel later this year.
I'd feel pretentious trying to answer this, as I'm not confident my understanding is deep enough and I haven't heard it described that way. An opportunity for me to learn 🙏

I hope I didn't cause more confusion... :-)

Would astrology be another configuration of the sefirot?
